20 March - Members attended the first Southern League meeting of the year hosted by South Somerset Autograss Club at Highbridge, Somerset.
Class 1 - 11 starters - 4 WS cars - Stuart Mackenzie had the best run in the heats with a 1st and 2nd and a 5th in the final but Pete Saunders took top points honours with a 3rd, 1st and 3rd in the final. Dawn North was close behind with a 3rd, 4th and a 2nd in the final and showing good speed this year was Gavin Oxenbury collecting 76 points.
Class 2 - 9 starters - 5 WS cars - Chris Tudgay took the top honors with 3 wins taking a maximum 176 points followed by Jon Napier with a 2nd, 1st and 5th in the final. Mark Neagle was the only other WS car to finish the day with 82 points with a 3rd, 4th & 6th as Nigel Stroud and Dougie Atkins both broke down after the first heats.
Class 3 - 4 starters all Wessex!! - As in previous years Adrian Joyce and Ian Fay both enjoyed wins and seconds in the heats with Adrian taking the win in the final. Leigh Napier and Sam Brown both had their first outings in this class with Leigh taking 3rd in the final ahead of Sam.
Class 4 - 3 starters with 1 WS car - Unfortunately Ray broke before turning a wheel in anger but we are sure he will be back out soon!
Class 5 - no WS starters
Class 6 - 6 starters with 3 WS cars - Steve Ford brought out his new Peugeot car which took a heat win on its first attempt but an overheating problem gave him a 4th in the second heat and a non finish in the final. Ryan Napier had a 5th and 3rd in the heats but managed to get a 2nd in the final to take the highest points out of the WS cars. Leigh Napier in the Micra had a 4th and 5th in heats but did not finish the final.
Class 7 - 3 starters - 1 WS car - Shaun Brown was the lonely WS driver in this class and came away with two 2nds in the heats and a 3rd in the final.
Class 8 - 10- starters - 1 WS car - Dave Atkins had his first outing in many years in this special and had a heat win, 3rd and 5th. He also came second in the interclub challenge.
Class 9 - 4 starters - 2 WS cars - Martin Gaylard took the top points over Stuart Taylor, both had a heat in with Stuart getting a better result with his other race but Martin won the final to finish 15 points infront of Stuart.
Class 10 - No WS starters
Juniors - 8 starters - 2 WS cars - both of these cars were owned by Bandits with WS69 having the best results in the heats but unable finish the final after receiving a black flag, WS63 did not start the second heat but made it back out to finish 3rd in the final.
Junior Specials - 4 starters - 1 WS car - Jack Joyce was the only WS starter and had mechanical problems in the practice so did not start the first heat but was back out to take second in the heats and final.
Ladies - 8 starters - 6 WS cars - All the ladies raced together on a staggered start. Lisa Frost and Kirsty Mackenzie were out in the minis with Lisa having a heat win, non finish and non start, Kirsty faired better with two wins and a second. In class 2 Caroline Chapman completed the first heat but unfortunately the gearbox broke and she was unable to complete the rest of the day, Sarah Napier went on to pick up the points with a win and second. In the modified classes Lisa Hills raced the class 3 taking all wins along with win for Jane Baynton in the class 9.

26 February - WMRC attended the Rallye Sunseeker on the Saturday to promote the club and racing. Lisa Frost and Stuart Mackenzie brought their newly painted class 1 mini, Chris Tudgay had his class 2 Nova fresh from the Autosport International Show at the NEC, unfortunately we did not have any class 3's, 4's, 6's or specials but class 5 was represented by Tom Fosters Peugeot powered Mini. In class 7 we had two cars Shaun Brown in his twin Suzuki motobike powered Fiat and Mike Collins with his twin Yamaha powered Mini - these two pulled the biggest crowds when they were started up!! Photos are on the Gallery section. Thanks to all members who supported this event - nearly 100 information packs were handed out!!
